You need a provider seat for every user in your account who gets placed on the call schedule. These users have "provider" permissions in On Call Central, giving them full access to the On Call Central web, telephone, and mobile applications. For example, if you are a seven physician medical group, but only five people share call, that is a five provider group.
There are other common types of user types in On Call Central who do not have provider permissions, and for whom we do not charge additional fees. These include:
- Admins. Typically a practice manager, or someone who might oversee the account, but who never goes on the call schedule.
- Assistants. Typically someone who reviews call logs and ensures patients have received proper follow-up. The assistant user type cannot be placed on the call schedule, and has no access to the On Call Central telephone application/voicemail interface.
- Covering Providers. A covering provider typically is a provider at another practice with whom you occasionally share call. Covering providers can be placed on the call schedule, but themselves have no access to any part of the On Call Central software (voice, web, or mobile). Rather, when the covering provider is placed on the call schedule and the option to leave a message for the provider is selected, we simply forward the phone call to the covering provider's office. You can read more about covering providers here.
