Yes, On Call Central can be configured to work with Google Voice, but we strongly recommend against it. If your practice currently uses Google Voice, you very likely should find a different phone solution. There are several reasons for this, including:
- Using Google Voice in medical practice likely is illegal. Google's BAA specifically does NOT include Google Voice.
- Google is known to use audio recordings and other data from Google Voice to improve speech recognition algorithms. Basically, your patient data is being used, without their consent, to improve Google's products. Again, this is not HIPAA-compliant.
- If you use Google Voice, which is known not to be HIPAA-compliant, we cannot sign a BAA with you. If you start using Google Voice after using On Call Central, it explicitly will void the BAA you have with us.
If you happen to be using On Call Central in a manner that is expected not to field phone traffic whose subject matter falls under the purview of HIPAA, please contact us for assistance. Forwarding Google Voice to On Call Central requires some very specific steps, and likely cannot be completed by most end users without assistance from our support team.
